George and I have been vegetarians for about a decade now. Well, it has been a decade if you don’t push a restart button every time we ate something we were told was vegetarian only to find out later that it actually contained gelatin, or meat stock, or was cooked in lard. We’ve also lived in California that whole time, and have determined, after a bit of travel, that California may be the best place in the world to be vegetarian.
Even still, we know that many vegetarians find themselves in the minority in their friends and family groups. We certainly do. We are the only vegetarians in our families, and the only vegetarians among our closest friends (our one vegetarian friend went and moved to New York). These relationship dynamics can make it hard to eat out with family and friends. So, we made this site to share some of the places that we’ve found where the vegetarian option isn’t only a side salad and French fries, or if it is, to warn other vegetarians out there about it. In short, to be an herbivore in an omnivorous world can be challenging. We hope this site helps a little.
