Togo’s Sandwiches started in 1968 in San Jose, California. They are now a franchise that offers dine in, take out, and catering, but the feel and freshness of California has been maintained in every store George and I have eaten in over the years. We always know that if we find a Togo’s we will have a good vegetarian sandwich.
We tend to take turns having either the hummus sandwich or the avocado and cheese sandwich. Either way, we usually have a large on white with lettuce, tomatoes and onions, no mayo, yes mustard, yes salt and pepper, and cut into three pieces. George eats two of the pieces, and I eat one. We also usually share a bag of Fritos Corn Chips (simply delicious!). We each buy a drink. In the end, we can walk away full having had a great sandwich, chips and sodas for under $10.
Togo’s has five vegetarian sandwiches on their menu under the heading “Vegetarian Sandwiches.” I’ve eaten all but their plain “Cheese Sandwich” and never left unsatisfied. They also always have a vegetarian option in their soup offerings for the day, as well as a “Farmer’s Market” salad. You can check out their menu online for specifics.
In short, if you find yourself in need of a quick meal without tons of money, Togo’s is a safe bet. Your meat-eating friends will also be happy, I’m sure, since their section of the menu is more than ten times the size of ours. Everyone will leave happy with contented stomach and pocket books.
